	ONE DAY TOURS FROM SAN JOSÉ If you do not wish to go out of the city for several days, you have the option of taking one-day tours, leaving early in the morning and returning in the evening, on time for dinner. CITY TOUR 4 Hours Visit the residential are of Rohrmorser, the Sabana Park, near the residence of Mr. Oscar Arias (former president of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize), Bank area in the center of the city. You will also visit the National Theater and the National Museum (the Jade Museum only opens on Mondays). The Court of Justice and the go through los Yoses, to end up in the campus of the University of Costa Rica. The tour includes a visit to the store Diamons and Emeralds located near the Sabana Park and end up in the souvenir shops of Moravia. WHITE-WATER RAFTING TO THE REVENTAZON, PACUARE OR SARAPIQUI, CLASS II-III AND IV 8 Hours All the tours have an early departure, to arrive with some spare time to the rivers. You will be accompained by bilingual guides whom will give you all security tips required in this tours. It was almost totally covered by vegetation until 1968, when it had the eruption which destroyed and area of 230 square kilometers. Since then, the eruptions have continued, therefore during the night you can observe the incandescent rocks falling from the crater. The hotsprings are located at the bottom of the volcano, therefore you get a gorgeous view of the volcano, when not cloudy. This tour starts at around 10ª.m., leaving San Jose, going thrhoug the plains fo San Carlos, located in the North of the country. The scenary during the journey is breathtaking. The tour includes lunch and dinner, plus entrance fee to the hotsprings. We recommend to wear shorts, warm weather clothes, hiking shoes and bathing suit. ARENAL VOLCANO 3 days 2 nights: round trip transportation to a hotel in the area, lodging and meals tour to the Tabacon resort, with the hot springs and dinner Tour to Caño Negro with lunch. Children under 9 do not pay for lodging. From 10 to 12 years old pay 50% TORTUGA ISLAND CRUISE 14 Hours The bus will pick you up at your hotel, early in the morning to go for a 2 hour ride to the port town of Punaternas. A light light breakfast is served on the way. Once you board the boat you will ride through the Gulf of Nicoya to Torguga Island. On the way you will enjoy a beautiful scenary of the islands and the birds typical of the tropical dry forest. Once you are at the Island you will stay for approximately 4 hours. The guide will let you know the time for lunch. After the meal you will have the chance to go for a beach volleyball, enjoy the canopy tour, rent snorkeling equipment, water bikes, sea kayaks or just lie down on the sand. At around 3 in the afternoon you will board the boat again for the return ride back to Puntarenas and you will be arriving back to the city at around 8:00p.m. We recommend to bring: Bathign suit, suntan lotion, towel, sandals, sunglasses, extra clothes in case you get wet and camera. BUTTERLFY FARM 4 hours This tour includes a very detailed explanation about the anatomy and psycology of the butterflies in their different stages, their intercourses, their defense mehcanisms and may other aspects of the operation of the farm. The Butterfly Farm is the first ehibition of butterflies in Latin America and it´s a great attraction for Costa Ricans and visitors. IRAZU VOLCANO 5 Hours This is the highes volcano in the country (3,432 mts high) considered by many as one of the most energetic places of the country. It enormous crater is surrounded by a lunar landscape and has a green color lagoon in its bottom. From the highest point you will have one of the best views of the National Park, the caribbean coast and the low lands. The volcano is located North of the former capital Cartago, two hours away by car from San Jose. The trayectory offers you beautiful views of Cartago and San Jose, as web as many fields dedicated to the agriculture, with very fertile land from the mountain. At the volcano you will have time to walk and explore the area. You can also observe the different craters, its vegetation, typical of this area and enjoy very fresh air. SARCHI This tour takes you to areas with beautiful scenary an dgoes through sugar canne plnatations. You arrive first in Grecia, with the metalic church, which is wuite famous for its beautiful arquitechture brought from Belgium to our coast, by boat and then by oxcarts to the town. The pieces of this church remained abandoned for very long time where today is the park in front of the church. Our former president Iglesias donated money to start the construction of the church as all the pieces were rusting. The tour then goes to Sarchi, which is the birthplace of the handicraft in Costa Rica where you will find a vast amount of souvenirs handmade, from ver small oxcarts to furniture handpainted with different motives and colors typical of the area of Sarchi. Besides there are the oxcart factories where they make the regular size oxcarts. After that visit you will return to San Jose. LANKESTER GARDENS The tropical gardens of Lankester are located in the province of Cartago, in the town of Paraiso. The garden has over 800 different ochids species and toher kinds of tropical flowers. After visiting the botanical gardens you go to the Orosi Valley and the unique and famous Reventazon River. This zone is very rich with coffee plantations, water squash and once you arrive to the town of Orosi you can visit the old colonial church and the Dream House where they make wood figures. POAS VOLCANO 5 Hours The Poas is one of the most traditional volcanoes, not far from San Jose and 2 hours by car is the time it takes you to get there, plus the raod takes you almost all the way to the crater wher you can observe it from the lookout point. This volcano is still active and has a hughe crater of 1.3 kilometers of diameter and 300 meters deep, with a sulfur and warm water lagoon. This view is one of the nature´s wonders with its beautiful colors and surrounded with bautiful vegetation typical of the tropical cloud forest. This beautiful colosus is located in the province of Alajuela. The tour includes the entrance fee to the volcano, but does not include any meals. RAIN FOREST AERIAL TRAM 7 Hours. This is a very special adventure for nature lovers. The Aerial Tram is a fascinating way of exploring, as the flight of a bird, wath some people call the hanging forests of Central America, which is one of the richest and exhuberantforests of the neotropic. The journey on the tram is of 1 and 20 minutes and you cover 2.6 kilometers in the forest. The Aerial Tram is located on the road from San Jose to Limon, making the border line of the Braulio Carrillo National Park, just one hour away from San Jose and its height is 700 meters above sea level. The tour starts whe you´re picked up at your hotel, at the asigned time and besides the ride on the tram you will have a walk on one of the trails of the forest and you will also have time for lunch (this depends on the time you take your tour). You will then be returned to your hotel. We recommend to take hiking shoes, short or long pants and a hat or a cap. It is important to bring a raincoat, binoculars, mosquito repellent and camera. TORTUGUERO CANALS 12 Hours You leave San Jose early in the mornign accompained by a bilingual guide and on the way you will see coffee plantations and then you will go throught the beautiful Braulio Carrillo National Park, which has an area of 46,000 hectars and is the largest park of our country and contains 557 different species of animals an over 4,000 different types of plants. On the journey you make a stop at the National Park, for a typical full breakfast accompained with fresh fruit, and our typical Gallo Pinto. You will arrive at the dock where you will board the boat to go to the majestic Caribbean Canals, the most famous in the world. The Tortuguero Canals cover 18,000 hectars and is one of the most important sites for the green turtle nesting, besides you are able to see a large varitety of flora and fauna (ocelots, monkeys, wild pigs, manatis, toucans, trogons, egrets and herons, crocodiles and caymans and gorgous butterflies) We recommend comfortable shoes (tennis shoes), mosquito repellent, camera, binoculars and the entrance fee is not included, which you must pay upon arrival and it´s around $7.00 per person.
